For some reason I can't quit Photos on my MacBook, it just remains open. My MacBook won't even shut down as it says Photos is stopping it from doing so.

When clicking on 'Photos' the option to Quit is greyed out..

And when I right click on the Photos icon in the Dock and click on 'Quit', it doesn't work, is there a way to force quit?

Three ways to force quit an unresponsive app.

1. open Activity Monitor, select the line with Photos, and hit the "Stop" icon in the toolbar. You'll be asked to confirm. Pick Force Quit.

2. hit the Command + Option + Escape keys simultaneously. Pick Photos from the list and then the Force Quit button.

3. you've already tried this and it isn't working: right-click the icon in the dock and there should be a Force Quit entry in the menu that comes up with a frozen app. Doesn't always appear.

You might also consider a restart after force-quitting Photos, in case things generally are destabilized in your system.

Thank you, I had forgotten about Activy Monitor, that did the trick :)
