So, mp1.1, had a raid10 setup (software).

started to act weird so I CCC:d the data to new disks and decided to break the 4 disk raid10. Partially succeeded, but the last two disks won't reformat, no matter what.

they don't show up on the desktop, and under diskutil they show up as raid slice A / "drive has a hardware problem and cannot be repaired"

or when trying to erase : "Volume erase failed with the error : Disk object invalid or unable to serialize".

This happens if I throw in both drives at the same time or separately.

Any go around, via terminal perhaps?

I have 2 disks now that I can't format..

Sounds like the disks have failed

Of course they have "failed" as the raid10 has been taken down...

But yep, seems that one of the disks (the main culprit) might actually have mechanical problems as well. Finally managed to format the other one but the other, not so...
