Hi everyone,

After scouring forum posts on this topic for the past hour, I am still unable to rename a folder on my MacBook (OS X 10.5.8).

The folder in question is:

Macintosh HD:Applications:Adobe Lightroom:Contents:Resources:de.lproj

I am trying to rename the folder in order to effectively hide it from Lightroom (LR), so that I can continue to use LR in English, while still having the rest of my OS/apps in German.

So far, I have tried:

- Verifying permissions on the folder (which are now set to "Read & Write" for system, wheel and everyone);
- Repairing permissions;
- Tossing the finder.plist file;
- A restart after all of the above.

Still, I receive the message "You do not have sufficient access privileges to rename the item "de.lproj".

Having only switched over to Mac a couple of years ago after knowing my way in and out of Windows, it appears that I'm not quite up to scratch yet... Understandably, I am getting quite frustrated with this on a Saturday morning. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers from a first-time poster,
- Marc

That's weird :rolleyes:

You could make an alias of the folder and name that whatever you want.

I guess thats more of a workaround then a solution though....

Edit:

Nevermind, re-read and I now realize this will not help. Can't you just change the lightroom settings

Actually, I have now switched the OS language to English... just to make sure that I am not missing anything. :)

In any case, at this point, the whole language issues are secondary. I just want to know why I (inexplicably!) can't rename a folder...

There are many folders that do not allow the user to rename them. It's possible that if you rename some folders, the app or the OS will not be able to find needed resources to execute something. From the path you've given, I'd say that's the reason in this case. You are able to rename folders you've created, right?

Yes, I am able to rename folders that I have created, so no issues there.

I believe I should able to rename the folder in question, though, given that others have successfully done so:

Again, I am not so much concerned about the initial goal (i.e. using LR in English with the rest of the OS in German). I am just looking to understand why I can't rename this folder when I seem to have all the privileges necessary to do so. And though your reply is definitely true in certain cases, I think there may be something else going on here. Maybe?!
