This is unfortunate. It sounds like your Cydia installation is broken, and I don't know of any way to fix it without SSH, iFile, or MobileTerminal installed. My usual advice in this situation is to restore and rejailbreak, but if your SHSH is not on file it's impossible for you to restore.

I would suggest that you try doing a restore with saurik's method just in case the previous owner backed up your SHSH.

Thanks for all the help macrumors:(:)

Did you try saurik's method?

Sn0wbreeze will not work on old-bootrom devices or devices on 3.1.3. It's basically a Windows port of PwnageTool.

Honestly....I looked it over and its to confusing for me. Maybe because Ive been at this the whole day......

Im downloading iFile since I know you can gain root access to the phone if I'm not mistaken. When I open it, I don't see any root access to anything. Just photo's...music ect. Just trying to unlock this bad boy.......been a tough 2 days thus far.

I wrote a post yesterday about spending 12 hours trying to fix this. Today, I did the same thing and I am drained. I tried iphone browser......I tried spirit on windows.....nothing is working. I did Saurik and had no positive results. I was getting the 1604 error. I am very annoyed at this point. Is updating to Ios4 the only option? I know I can't jb or unlock it......but I can't even do a custom restore......

btw im on 3.1.3...new bootrom.....5.12.01

Did you try reinstalling the jailbroken OS? Did you try and reset network settings in your "settings"?

EDIT:

I just read your original thread. It seems no one mentioned to go into settings --> reset --> reset network settings.

My cydia was crashing and showing a black screen which never changed, I reset network settings, and it booted right up.

I was hoping it would of done something......but it didn't work for me. Appreciate the suggestion though......am i stuck here now?

Question......should I go into settings and "Erase All Content And Settings"? Do you think that woould take care of the crash so I can start over new?

That can cause problems with jailbroken devices, sometimes requiring a DFU restore. May be safer with a Spirit jailbreak...I wouldn't know. I would say definitely try that before upgrading to 4.0, but try everything else you can first.

ETA: When you tried Saurik's method to restore to 3.1.3, did you do it in DFU mode? If not, you should try it that way. If it doesn't work, you can get out of DFU by doing a hard reset.

Hmmm I tried spirit multiple times and it doesn't stop cydia from crashing. Yes, when I tried saurik, I put it in DFU mode. I am getting ALOT of 1604 errors. I'm trying different methods for mac and pc. None are working.

I don't know if this is an issue or not but I downloaded iphonebrowser, but it doesn't give me root access to the iphone files nor does it mention anything about cydia which the icon is still on my phone.

Sorry for many post in the past 2 days. I'm at my wits end with all of this.

Anyway, since I tried everything possible trying to restore my 3gs to 3.1.3 (currently installed by the way)......clearcydiacatche.....saurik......iphonebrowser....pwnage......ireb.....sn0wbreeze.....and even tried spirit a few times....

What If I"erase all content and settings" Hook the phone up to itunes.......and restore from backup? What are the chances of that working? Trying to avoid ios4 by the way

As I said in your previous thread, I know that "Erase All Content and Settings" has left some people who were jailbroken in a boot loop, i.e., stuck at the apple logo. I do not know whether Spirit, being a userland jailbreak that does not modify the bootloader, would be less likely to cause problems. It is possible that "Erase All Content and Settings" would allow you to re-jailbreak with Spirit, but you should try it with the knowledge that you might end up in a boot loop and be forced to upgrade to 4.0.
