I'm guessing you mean 10.0.1 and 10.0.2. Have you tried resetting the 7+ before attempting to restore? I think they come with 10.0.1 installed maybe the update was applied a bit early?

Yes sorry I meant 10.0.1

I've tried resetting the 7+ but it keeps saying that its got 10.0.2 is there any way I can knock it back to 10.0.1

I think that message is referring to your iPhone 6 backup not being IOS 10. Do you still have the 6 ? If so update it to IOS 10 then do another backup. Look at backups in iTunes and you will see two, try again with new one. If you don't have the 6 then setup as new.

By any chance are you on the iOS beta 10.1 on your iPhone 6?

Backups from lower versions will usually install onto newer versions. So if your backup was 10.0.1 it should install to 10.0.2.

I'm wondering if maybe you are on the beta track and inadvertently installed 10.1 beta on to your 6.

If you did, install iOS 10.1 beta onto the 7 and you should be fine.

Otherwise if you are sure you are on 10.0.1 then you can upgrade the 6 to 10.0.2 then complete a backup again.

I've tried everything. I set the new phone up as a new device. I did have the beta on my 6 but now it says "IOS 10.1 Your Software Is Up To Date"

How would I install the beta to the 7 as its got IOS 10.02

Also do you have the latest iTunes? This prevented me from restoring from backup

Go to beta.apple.com/profile and install 10.1 on your 7. You inadvertently installed 10.1 on your 6.

Your backup is based on 10.1 so you will need 10.1 on your 7 to restore.

Go to beta.apple.com/profile from your 7. Install the profile. Check for update.

Do you have the public beta of iOS 10.1 on your 6?(go to settings-> general-> about, and look at the version number, there's a difference between 10.1 and 10.0.1) If so then you'll need to update your new phone to that. Set your 7 up as a new phone, install the public beta profile on it, then update to 10.1. Once you've done that you can go to settings -> general -> reset, then select erase all content and settings. It will bring you back to the setup screen and then you can restore from your backup.
