I just purchased an 11 pro max but the pictures look worse to me than the 7 I upgraded from especially the colors. I looked at the files and my 7 was exporting .HEIF and this phone is exporting .JPEG. I confirmed most efficent is selected in settings but nothing has changed. Any other settings I need to look at?

You should check that "Keep Originals" is checked in Settings/Photos. (My IOS is in German, so I'm not sure if I translated it properly)

Maybe you have missed out on my post, but on your iPhone go to Settings/Photos and check the box "Keep Originals". This way the photos won't be converted when transferred to your PC or Mac.

I tried that with a test photo and its still JPEG. Did I need to turn on iCloud storage to find it or am I looking at the wrong one it was off originally.

iCloud isn't necessary for this. The original setting is "Automatic" - in this case the photos will be converted into JPEG when transferred to a Computer (to avoid issues with compatibility/computers that can't open HEI-Files). If you tick "Keep Originals" no conversion happens and the photos should be transferred as HEIF.

Keep originals is selected this is weird HEIF worked fine on my old phone and I transferred all the data from it.

That's weird then. You said in your camera settings you have High Efficiency checked? This basically tells the phone to produce HEIF. Have you tried sending a photo via airdrop to your Macbook? Does it convert then as well?

Ive tried Signal as a file, my Amazon Photos drive and airdrop all are JPEG (I can also tell by the colors its off even on the phone). I confirmed its the same settings as my 7 and HEIF works with all of those methods with it.

I'm out of ideas. Either way the difference between JPEG and HEIF should mostly be in file size and not so much in visual quality 🤔 Would you mind posting an example of what bothers you? Maybe it's just a "personal taste thing"

I got it to work somehow. I saved it to the phone to the downloads folder and viewed its info in the Files app. It showed as .HEIC now they are all showing and transferring as .HEIC must be some weird bug I didn't change any settings.
