Can't see AirPort Extreme using airport utility ....

.... but Internet and wireless work fine.

At one point I briefly had the AE show up but then while navigating through the options it suddenly dropped off.

Did both already and also did airplane to reset those connections.


I ended up windows'ing the router (ie pulling the plug lol)

Then I went ahead and did the firmware update. So far so good but annoyed that I had to apply some Windows 98 style fix to an apple product.
