Can't see live timer on lock screen

I'm having a bit of trouble getting the timer to show the actual time remaining on the lock screen.
It just comes up as 00:00.
Any help would be appreciated.

(iPhone 5s running latest software)

I've has this same problem since first installing iOS 7. I never bothered to look for a fix but if anyone knows then it'd be good to sort it out.

I've tried restarting phone and it didn't work.
I don't want to reset my settings just to fix this issue.

Just to be clear, you didn't simply turn it off and on, you held the sleep and home buttons until the logo appears?
