Well I got screwed by the upgrade this time around. Messages will not send from my MacBook Air. They sync, as in if I send or receive from my iPhone, they show up on the MacBook. But the MacBook will not send them. Fails every time. Tried signing out and back in, disabling/enabling iMessage and Text Message Forwarding, nothing works.

Anyone else have this issue or found a fix?

Or do Apple developers really not even use their own stuff anymore? How did this get through QC?

Looks like imessage is down atm. Don’t think it’s related to Ventura at all. From what I can tell it isn’t working on my iPhone either. Some people are able to message me but generally seems like it isn’t working overall.

Well I just tested my Monterey work laptop and it's working perfectly there.

Am I seriously gonna have to wipe my MacBook and revert to Monterey? Hasn't even been 24 hours. Way to go Apple.

Just give it a bit of time. Try again in an hour and if after a restart it still isn’t working maybe try restoring it.

Hello,

I am having a similar issue. Ventura plus iPhone SE IOS 16.1
I have older messages on my Ventura screen but it will not send or receive anything since updating from Monterey.
I have gone through all the parameters that I can find on both but NOGO.
All ideas are more than welcome.
The progress bar freezes, then the message becomes unsent.

I'm having the same problem since upgrading to Ventura 13.0. Just now installed 13.0.1 but it didn't fix it. My iPhone 12 with iOS 16.0 is receiving and sending texts, but Ventura is not sending or receiving SMS texts. It seems to be working for iMessage though.

OtisJUhl we do not seem to be taken seriously; should we create a new thread? How can we catch attention to this very frustrating problem?
At least for me, it is very annoying as I had very much gotten the hang of using messages - SMS in my daily work mode.
IMAC 9.1 2009 running Monterey
IMAC 17.1 2015 on Ventura 13.0.1
IPHOME SE 2022 IOS 16.1
Ipad Air 4 IOS 16.

Yes, Hugonel, I think we should. Like you, my iPhone running iOS16 and my MacBook Air (which is old and slow) running Monterey are working, but not my MacBook Pro running Ventura 13.0 or Ventura 13.0.1. I tried all the fixes suggested online: restarting, signing out of my Apple ID and signing back in, syncing with iCloud but nothing works. I agree with you - it's frustrating to lose this functionality. It's a lot easier to type text messages on a real keyboard than on a phone.

I got it working after a big search in all parameters on the iPhone!
Apple is putting in more and more parameters, once correct, all is perfectly smooth!
Let me know if it is the same for you please.

Please tell me where you found those options (in detail, please) - and was it on your iPhone or MacBook? Thank you!

As I said in my last message it is on the iPhone parameters.
You have th pictures I included to find it in the long list of parameters of Messages.

After re-reading your original post, I realized your problem was with your iPhone SE. My iPhone 12 with iOS 16.0 was working correctly for both iMessages and SMS. My MacBook Air with Monterey was also working, but my MacBook Pro stopped sending and receiving SMS messages when I upgraded to Ventura 13.0. So the phone fix didn't help me, but thanks for trying. (the MacBook, as you know, doesn't have the same setting options).

Did you check the phone setup out, just be sure?
Tell me about the differences on the Macbook, it has been a long time since I stopped using one.

Interesting...I went into Messages on iPhone and my MacBook Pro was actually listed twice (I have no idea why?!) but one version allowed text message forwarding and the other version didn't, so I changed that setting and, so far, it seems to be working. I really don't understand why that is helping: If I didn't own iPhone, I would have expected the Macbook to send and receive SMS messages over my wifi network by itself (but maybe not?). ........as I was typing this, I just got confirmation that my SMS message was received, so the problem is fixed. Thank you so much! I owe you, Hugosnel!

That is good news! Come buy me a beer in France.
SmS will not work without portable phone as far as I know.
Glad we worked this out and maybe someone can profit from this thread.
Cheers OtisJUhl ;)

France! I saw the iPhone settings in French but thought you might be in Canada. Well, I do owe you a beer! Again, thanks for your help and I do hope this thread helps others as well. (and I learned about needing a phone to send SMS messages!). Au revoir!

This worked for me, too. I did not realize Ventura sends messages via the iPhone. On my iPhone, I went to Settings:Messages:Send and Receive, and "activated" my Mac which was already listed. Works fine now.
Thanks, abromber
