On Monterey 12.7.6 (Intel), I have a Sequoia 15.1.1 virtual machine in VMware Fusion 13.5.2.
Trying to log in from the App Store returns “An unknown error occurred” and from System Settings “Verification Failed An unknown error occurred”.
I understand about the limitations of virtualization on Apple silicon, but I can’t find any new restrictions for Intel. I can log in without any issues in a Sonoma virtual machine.
Anybody managed to log in into App Store on virtual Sequoia 15.1.1?

Read somewhere that Sequoia determines whether running virtualized and is looking for host system secure enclave in order to support Apple Account login and limited feature set. If on Intel, perhaps T2 security chip required?

I believe your host machine needs to be running Sequoia as well for Apple Account login to work in virtual machine.

I can login on VMware in Windows with Sequoia. I copied the parameters from the Fusion machine along with the specific MacBook Pro serial numbers etc. The performance of course is awful as it is a gen2 Hypervisor, but for logging in to the App store it works in contrast to Sequoia on a Hyper-V, where the performance is excellent, but can't log in to the App store. Make sure the ethernet adapter is en0 otherwise do:
Code:
sudo rm /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist

Thank you for the updated darwin.iso!
Unfortunately it didn’t make any difference on a new macOS 15.2 VM.
I tried Sequoia 15.2 in Parallels Desktop 20.1.2 and I get the same error.

VMware has deprecated support for macOS virtual machines (see KB article https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/88697?lang=en_US&queryTerm=88697 ).. macOS 12 Monterey was the last version that VMware did any work on for Fusion. macOS 13 Ventura and 14 Sonoma may work, but if they don't you're out of luck.

I haven’t searched the forum thoroughly, it’s a known issue https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...tel-fusion-or-parallels.2429074/post-33234335 @gilby101

As login works in Workstation VMs, I tired to convert my macOS VM into a virtual hackintosh or unsupported Mac by adding OpenCore with MacPro7,1 PlatformInfo to it. I was able to boot it, but the keyboard and mouse don’t work.

I have to take a closer look at what ULTMOS or OSX-KVM are doing.

I’ll give VirtualBox a try too.

What are you using? UTM?
I installed it in Hyper-v and it is very responsive there, but I get the same issue with the App Store. I also have it installed in EndeavorOS with Quickemu.

I’m trying to get it to work on Monterey as host, so I’m using VMware Fusion 13.5.2.

It’s possible. kern.hv_vmm_present has to be set to 0.
So far, I’ve successfully tested two ways:
- kernel patch detailed here https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/anyone-can-make-bluetooth-work-on-sonoma.153301/#post-697832 Thanks to @voldemortkein for pointing it out.
- the VMHide kext https://github.com/Carnations-Botanica/VMHide
I took the easy way and used OCLP to generate a configuration faking an iMac20,2. Time permitting, I’d like to have a simple OC configuration, without using OCLP.
