Can't sign into gmail for mail app

In settings> mail> add account, After I type in the email and password I just bounce back to the screen where you choose the email provider.
Tried a reset but still not letting me add it.
iPhone 7 iOS 10.2.1

Had the same thing happen. Had to log in from safari, then go back to mail and it worked. Not sure why...

I think google is blocking your iPhone from using gmail. I had to go to googles web site and unblock it now it's working for me

I've tried numerous times since the post and it finally worked not long ago. I didn't go through the website. To quote Phil Schiller it 'just worked'
