Can't sign into Messages or FaceTime on Macbook Air

Not sure what's going on. Everything was working yesterday.
Today when I try to send a message on my laptop it says I need to sign in.
So I tried that many times and it never worked so I clicked on Forgot Password and established a new password.
Still can't sign in. I can however sign into my Apple ID using the web browser by going to the Apple website.
I'm using MacBook Air with OS 10.15.5
Any ideas?

In system preferences, open Apple ID and see if anything unusual there.

I had to call customer service.
They did some things on their end, had me sign out of the iCloud and then reboot in safe-mode and sign in and then reboot to normal and things worked out fine. Then we signed out of the phone and signed back in there with the new pass word.
Bottom line, apparently it was something on their end.
