Is there a way to reset the password/name I have to provide upon startup as I can sign in. Nothing seems to work. If I press the back button the two white boxes disappear and I can't click on anything. It is new and it happens as soon as I finished setting up options like location services etc so I have not even seen my desktop yet.

What are my options.

Thanks

The quickest/easiest method is going to be by booting into single-user mode and changing the password via CLI.

The article says "change admin password" but the directions work for any user. Where is says "passwd username" you just substitute "username" with your username (You can "ls /Users" if you're not sure what your actual username is).
