Can't tag files on external hard drive

when i tag files on my external hard drive ,it take the colour of tags but when i'm in finder and click for example on blue tag there isn't any files appear
what format is the external?
It's probably normal that tags can't be attached to such a file system. I don't think its developers ever thought of tags.
Exfat gave me issues for spotlight searches I think tags and spotlight only search os journaled drive
i use ExFAT for Mac and Windows (read/write).
is there any solution to fix incompatibility and work in both systems?
What I did was bend Windows 7 to me and installed the shareware MacDrive. Then my Windows 7 partition could read/write/format all my OS X formatted drives.
If you want to bend OS X to NTFS look at Tuxera NTFS[ or NTFS. A word of warning, if you install one of these software programs you need an updated system of OS X every time it moves to a new version.
