Thing is it WILL come out before the autumn though.
Apple aren't going to leave a 17 month gap between iMac releases.

Also Apple aren't going to want to miss out on students buying for uni/college. If they leave it too late the competitors might eat into sales.

Also a lot more people are more tech savvy these days, especially when it comes to updates and specs. The quarterly report backs this up with mac sales having hardly any growth.

Apple also relies on word of mouth for their marketing buzz. I've told at least 10 people to not buy any mac since they are going to be updated soon.

As logical as that is , and I would tend to agree with you, remember we all thought the same thing about the mac pro.

Except the iMac is selling multiple times that of Mac Pros. Huge difference.

i have a feeling that there's gonna be a big change for the Mac line, since they all need to be refreshed by now.

has this happen before? when did the last time Apple had so many products to be refreshed like this.

So we can blame you that the Apple stores are currently so heavily stocked with the 2011 models at the moment? Thanks a lot, dude.

kidding :D

Ha yeah, I should have been telling everyone I know to go buy a mac right now! Unfortunately if the new ones happened to come out the next day I'd lose a lot of friends and probably a limb.

This wait is excruciating ! I do not really need a new computer, but I would really like to upgrade my 2006 iMac to get a bigger screen and a zippier machine.

Why is Apple taking so long to even announce anything ...

waiting waiting

Well, I'm feeling kinda sheepish cause I had NO idea about this whole refresh thing (yes, pretty much a total novice) BUT, I ordered a new iMac with a few bells and whistles through a reseller on early April and I'm still waiting for it to ship from Apple, so I've got no idea what to expect now. Am I going to get exactly what I ordered and paid for (an 'older' version of the iMac), which is what I'd expect frankly, but then, why the crazy delay? Or is Apple waiting for some sort of new wizz bang gadgetry to build my machine? Confused and frustrated. All I can say is, there'd better be a good reason for the holdup:(:eek:

If you bought from a reseller does it mean you don't have apple.com store where you live? Nor a physical apple store near you? If it does, being BTO (built to order) it will depend on the reseller's policies but Apple (directly) would take your machine back within 14 days of taking delivery of it and giving you one with the latest specs. That been said, the 2012 Intel processor doesn't really enhance the package much more than the 2011 processor did particularly for desktops so if I were you, I'd enjoy your new machine (when it arrives) and stop looking on here!!

No physical store

Very good point Confuzzzed! I won't be able to tell the difference. I just wish the frigging machine would hurry up and arrive already! 5 weeks and counting and no definite ship date in sight! My old MacPro just ain't coping anymore. Apparently, neither am I! :) And no, no physical store handy.

Honestly, do you guys believe there will be a redesign this year for iMacs??

I'm totally lost here. As bad as this sounds, I am willing to wait until June for a redesign, however if Ivy Bridge is only such an incremental update (for the desktop units) then I wouldn't mind buying the 2011 model.

What would Apple gain from redesigning the iMacs now? There is physically no way they could include Hi Res displays this year. It's way too early for that kind of tech in consumer products.

Same here. The monitor gave out last week so I'm pretty set on picking up an iMac. I've been waiting 7 years or so to upgrade it though, so another few weeks isn't going to kill me.

Apple knows even making a slight color change/bezel reduction/add USB with an Ivy Bridge CPU (promote less power) will push current owners to upgrade to have the latest Apple product.

Apple knows its consumers and knows how to manipulate them to push a sale even if the upgrade will not have any real impact on the consumers current use for their iMac.

Considering how close the refresh is even if it's delayed all the way to WWDC, this has got to be the worst advice anyone ever posted here. Anyone who is still waiting at this point might as well wait the whole rest of the way to the refresh.

If I were to buy a new Mac or my first Mac I would hold especially with the rumors of a redesign better processor, the possibility of USB 3.0 better graphics you would kick yourself if you buy one now and than three weeks later a new iMac would show up
