Can’t track tags on international trip

Just travelled from the U.K. via UAE to South Korea.

I have an AirTag in my suitcase and another in my hand luggage.

Currently I am with my hand luggage but my suitcase is technically 5 miles away.

If I go into the findmy app both devices say they were last seen a day ago and their location is still in the U.K. over 5000 miles away.

What’s the problem?

I have heard that the airtags are not allowed to be tracked in South Korea for legal reasons. Apparently, only the function with the new U1-chip works.

That must be correct. Just flown to Alaska and all is good again.
