My dad's iPhone 5 shuts down immediately if you try to swipe to unlock it. Restoring is impossible, because it wants me to disable Find My iPhone, which requires me to unlock the phone... Which is impossible because that makes it shut down.

So what can I do?

You will need to get Apple to look at it and find out why is shuts down when you swipe to open it. If you can not get past that it does not matter.

what happens if you plug it into your computer?

Glad it worked out, so is it fixed then?

Yeah, everything seems to work fine now.

Strange thing is the phone hadn't been in use for ages, and now when I took it out of the drawer it suddenly acted up out of nowhere.

Well, I guess it's all good now :)
