I have 3G with baseband 5.12.01. I don't have a sim card so I can't access the phone to use jailbreak me. Is there another way to jailbreak? It's running 4.0.1.

And is it worth enabling multitasking or will it make my phone too slow.

Since you're playing around with firmwares, you might as well update/restore to 4.0.2 just to say you're on the latest firmware. 4.0.2 is completely jailbreakable. Just point redsn0w to the iOS 4.0 firmware.

Got it, just had to restart the phone and it worked fine
