When I get notification that a new version is available, I start the process and it begins downloading but tells me it can't install until I turn off iTunes. I don't have iTunes running. I've tried following a fresh restart and it still thinks iTunes is running. How can I convince my computer otherwise?
I'm running OS X version 10.5.8. Any help would be appreciated.

Go up to the apple and click force quit. Does it show iTunes?

    Close Itunes
Run software update from the small Apple symbol top kept of for screen

A little more info would be useful. Which version of iTunes are you running? From where do you get the info re the update - from iTunes or Software Update? If it was from the former, I'd ignore it as this has been known to happen particularly on Leopard/Snow Leopard.
