iPhone 7. Can't use it while charging as it gets too hot to hold. Checked for any background activity and location services and tried a full restore. Using an iPad charger...

Just me?

Only seems to be when phone is charging up to 80% and then it's fine.

I'm using the iPad charger that came with my air 2 and a kinps 3m lightning charger.

I would start with the cable and power adapter that came with the phone and go from there.

None of mine ever get that hot.

Using in-box parts should fix it.

Any third party cable can cause issues, especially if they cost less - skimped out on important parts. There's a reason the iPhone cable charger is less than half the voltage as the iPad charger... though I use my iPad charger sometimes and notice some heat as well.

An iPad charger will allow your phone to draw more current and charge faster, which in turn generates more heat.

That being said, I've never had a problem with heat regardless of the charger. How hot is "too hot?" Do you have a way of measuring it?
