Didn't want the more expensive Apple Watch Series 5 right now because it is my first smartwatch! I will mainly use it to feel text messages, phone calls, and app notifications.

Congrats! I had the same thoughts, as wanted a fitness watch with bonus of a second screen to the phone. Did not see upside, for me, with a 5. Wanted to see if really wanted an AW without the initial outlay of latest. So far, happy with what I use it for (fitness, heart rate, notifications, audio controls, timer) and still not seeing, for me, a need for 5 as AOD display is unimportant, don't see need for ECG or "I've fallen and can't get up" function. Sure, might be nice to have better faces, but can live with what I got.

Nice! Welcome to the Apple Watch club. I absolutely love my Series 3 and it’s a great first watch to have. It’s pros definitely outweigh its cons. Sure, it may not have the biggest display out there and can’t take an ECG or detect falls, but for the things you listed it’ll work amazingly. Hope you enjoy it!!

How long is "A while"? It took a few minutes for mine to sync, but it feels like forever when you're so excited.

Just give it time :).

5 to 10 minutes lol.

That's pretty normal, especially if you have a bunch of apps installing.

Watch>General>About>Version.

Or just go to Watch>General>Software Update and update it to the newest version. Mine came with watchOS 5 so I immediately updated to watchOS 6.

Why is the Apple Watch 3 so slow in installing apps from my iphone 11 to apple watch 3 ? It takes like 2 to 3 minutes just to install one app if it has a apple watch version of course.

The Series 3 uses Bluetooth 4.2 vs the newer watches which use Bluetooth 5.0.

Seems to not matter once you have the Apple Watch setup.

Yeah, it’s really a non-issue most of the time. Probably the biggest area you would notice is when doing watchOS upgrades or transferring music. It doesn’t impact the daily use of the watch.

FWIW, I was happy when the Series 3 was upgraded to 4.2 because I thought it was noticeably faster than the 4.0 in the Series 2. Back then I use to have to manually transfer podcasts onto my watch. But those days are gone now that Apple brought a decent podcast player to the watch

Also got the S3 GPS a couple of weeks before the pandemic and I love it. It plays perfectly with my 11 Pro and the battery life is excellent (2 days + if I do not do any workouts). I also love how Apple includes a shorter band in the box (I have narrow wrists), just a small thing but I really appreciated it.

Still loving my NIKE S3. Just bought the wife a S3. Hope to get another 2 years. Does all I need and no complaints with the battery after 2 years.
