Having trouble trying to get my head wrapped around this new design choice.

1. Widgets
Widgets are basically small apps that display information. But they only appear once you've unlocked the phone and swipe up to the home screen. From that point, it's literally a tap in the old home screen to get your weather info.. or calendar info...

So what's the point of the widget? It's not giving you info at a glance...since it's only giving you the info once you've fully engaged with your phone... All it's doing is taking up real estate on your home screen.

2. Home screen vs. App drawer. The app drawer is confusing to me. If I delete my app from the home screen, it'll still be in my app drawer...but the app drawer is automatically organized...and there's no real way for me to reorganize my app drawer to more prominently show that app. Why is it organizing it and tucking it even further away from me? I get that it's trying to be neat, but that's like putting a cupboard inside my cupboard of Miscellaneous stuff...

Right now I've set my home screen to have just the bare minimum of apps (phone, messages, music, safari)... then the siri app suggestions widget, and the weather widget. But literally when I take my phone out of my pocket, I see the same blank screen before I swipe to my home screen.. no new at a glance info there....and when I now get to my home screen, sure the weather info is there if I need it, but the Siri suggestions won't ever display the app that I normally would open, so now off to the app drawer I go....

This new way of organizing is counter intuitive IMO.

Am I alone in this?

It is giving you info at a glance as you don't have to go to a particular app, open it, have it load and update, perhaps navigate to some section if needed, and then see the information there. You can also have multiple widgets next to each other giving you multiple pieces of information about multiple things at the same time basically in the same place without the need to open any apps, let alone multiple apps separately to get different pieces on their own.

You can also have widgets on the Today View that can be set to be quickly accessible from the locked Home Screen without unlocking the device.

I have replaced apps on my home screen (sans 3) with just widgets. I use the App Library to find whatever app I need for the moment. This scenario is exactly what CDM was describing. It is much quicker. It did take a little time getting used to.

This. Ever since I can remember, I’ve always just pulled down from the Home Screen to search for the app I want to open. I never used anything other than the main screen for my most frequent apps. And I love that you now have a setting to stop app icons from automatically appearing when you install a new app.

Ok I’ll try that.
move just removed the 4+ pages of apps and folders and just have my first front page, then the app drawer after. I guess that’s how it was designed!
let’s see if I can get used to it. Thanks guys!!
