Hi I have a Sony VX555 DVD/VHS recorder. Is there a way to capture footage from the HDMI + Optical outs of my deck to my MAC?

Be careful with HDMI. Devices with HDMI tend to carry HDCP (copy protection), and HDMI input cards for computers have to carry it too. That BlackMagic box already listed above has it.

What that means is the signal won't reach the computer. Unless you can find some way to bypass the HDCP, i'd stick with Component if you want to output an HD signal to your computer.

You might just consider directly ripping the DVDs. ( assuming this is not copyrighted material )

Or I can continue using the Roxio easy VHS to DVD. I was just hoping to find a better quality method of capturing since the only inputs on the Roxio are analog and S-Video to USB 2.
