Well, here's my biggest concern: Apple Silicon Mac with those software. Photoshop should be supported cause WWDC 2020 showed how it works but not Lightroom Classic. But the main issue would be Capture One Pro and they seems to not interested in Apple Silicon Mac. Well, if they dont support it within 2 years, then I might need to ditch Mac itself because I was planning to buy Apple Silicon Mac as I have two old desktop and laptop in my house. I am expecting to move from x86 to ARM for sure IF AS Mac is powerful and innovative. Truth be told, I already planned to move on to AS starting software. Thankfully, most of apps and software I have are not my concerns except for Capture One Pro and Insta360 Studio 2020. I'm just hoping to see Capture One Pro supported on AS Mac for better performance compared to what I have: Mac Pro 2012...

I sent messages to Phase One but they never responded about AS Mac. Well, it is a huge concern if they dont support it. Any ideas?

They very likely will never respond since they love being opaque ("We can’t comment on future development roadmap", etc), but my guess is they'll support it eventually. I need them to support it too. We shall see. I believe Adobe has already commented publicly about supporting ARM so it’s likely that the C1 engineers are rabbiting away working on, or at least thinking about, a migration. It will obviously work on Rosetta2 in the interim, just concerned about things like performance.

I suspect that Capture One development staff will try the earliest hardware available for sale to consumers. Until that point, they won't even speculate.

C1 is painfully slow on M1 mini... Much slower than Lightroom... What a shame! Thinking of switching back to LR

Got my M1 Mini Friday. Migrated everything from iMac to Mini via Time Machine backup. No problems. Running: LrC & Ps, Photo Raw, Affinity Photo, Pixelmator Pro. Both Photo and Pixelmator have been updated for M1 machines. I have a C1P license but will likely wait for C1P21 to be formally release in the next few days. There is a C1P21beta available.

21 beta is no different in terms of performance I'm afraid

Capture one is not ready for the M1 chip. It runs under Rosseta...the next version 21 will natively support M1 and Big Sur

No, it will not natively support M1 in v21. I'm running v21 beta at the moment. THing is Lightroom via Rosseta is significantly faster...

They claim they will have a native M1 build in early ‘21. I’m not after an M1 just yet, and getting C1 running natively is one reason. It will be interesting to see how well it works.

Well thats strange, in the sneak peak video 1 they stated that C1 will support M1. If not thats a complete fail as the ARM CPU is available for devs like 8months now, and affinity coders said that it took them 1 day to convert the code into ARM

Not excusing C1 here, but C1 has a much older DNA than Affinity (much older than Lightroom even) so they've likely got a lot of code to unwind to convert it over, especially given some of the very sophisticated tethering capabilities. It's not an apples-apples comparison to anything from Affinity. Capture One have publicly stated that they will have an M1 build in early 2021. This is similar, for example, to Adobe's public statements about Photoshop (also a release in 2021). And while Adobe plan to release a native M1 Lightroom in 2020, I don't believe they've done so yet.

C1P21 will FINALLY get a Dehaze feature that LrC has had for at least 5 years. So indeed PhaseOne may be facing a software architecture or code base that is becoming harder and harder to upgrade. And not the first hint of content aware eraser or fill. Time will tell.

Well they run still on opecl on mac, so i hope these m1 machines will force them to use the metal... and finally boost the performance of the program on mac

Could you please point me where do they claim it?

C1 has been targeting professional retouchers that prefer to do heavy lifting in Photoshop. I think that is why C1 is so good at raw conversion and color; specific focus. They’re not trying to be everything to everyone (jack of all, master of none).

Likely why I will not renew my subscription.

I think you are not alone on your sentiment.
Seems C1 was embraced by the enthusiast community enough for Phase to split them off as a separate C1 company. Professionals appreciate consistency and steady improvement while enthusiasts want more features. But I'm not sure the C1 team is ambitious enough to satisfy a very fickle community (perhaps Phase didn't want to be bothered with that, hence the split).

I’m one of those who is not interested in C1 being all things to all people. It’s outstanding at what it does - tethering, raw conversion, color, sessions and the like. That’s why I renew each year - it ticks a lot of boxes for me. In the grand scheme of photography, it is a minimal outlay each year in my opinion. That, Photoshop and Helicon and I’m golden.

In the comments section on the last “sneak peak” on their YouTube channel from last week. The Capture One moderator said it.
It was not David the host. It was Alexander who is the product manager of C1P who said they were looking into Apple Silicon support but would not say if it will only come for 21 or for 20 and 21....and when. I imagine they want to get 21 launched before they tackle M1.

Yep, but in the second one David hosted with Paul Reiffer where Alexander wasn’t around, there was a specific comment from the moderator - who are usually very careful - noting a build for early 2021. Obviously, thats simply another data point and may or may not be accurate.
