I purchased one of the $80 Monster Cable FM modulators / chargers when I bought my nano when they 1sy came out. So I was thinking the other day, why not use that as my car charger for my iphone. So I plugged it in and it charged just fine.... but the FM modulator did not work!!! Is this feature not available on the iphone? If so thats really horriable... that means I still need to keep my nano in order to play my music in my car or when going on a road trip? If so... they should not even offer the ipod feature on the iphone.. I RARELY use my headphones when I used my nano.. it was 99% through the car stereo. I was really suprised this did not work on my iphone.

i use my fm modulator i bought for my nano w/ my iphone.

it works fine except i need to put the phone in airport mode to avoid interference noises through the speakers.

sorry to hear yours doesn't work but i'm sure some iphone specific modulators will come out soon

You know whats funny? Figures at the time I spend the $80 on the best one you can buy and it dosent work with the iphone. I am going to find my brothers $20 one he bought at wal-mart a while ago and im sure it will work, lol...

Oh by the way, I wanted to ask... my Monster cable modulator uses the ipod plug, not the headphone plug. What does yours use? I figured a regular headphone plug modulator would work. The one im talking about plugs into the ipod port and charges it and sends out the audio at the same time. Does anyone know if the iphone has audio out built into the charging port? Im guessing yes because of the outputs on the dock.

Yes mine does the same. It's pretty cool because the orientation of the phone shows the album covers while it is playing.

Mine is an older module actually built for the regular ipod ... not the nano ... but the ipod interface is the same and works on all of them ... including the iphone. i'm going to buy an iphone specific one if anyone can find a way to overcome the phone interference.

When I press play on my iphone, it plays through the speakers and not the cable. Is there any settings, or should it automatically know the modulator is plugged in and run it through there?

Also does anyone know if the wattage / amprage / etc... is the same output that the nano uses to charge the battery on the iphone? I know car chargers are not the greatest for batterys, I just dont want to pump too much or too little of a charge into the iphone battery.

every once in a while mine will play through the iphone speakers even when plugged in ... so yeah maybe it is a voltage issue. i just unplug it and plug it back in making sure everything is firmly seated and it has always worked with my model.
