Back in the day i used to plug my ipod into a car charger when it was dead and i needed it in the car but never used it otherwise as i felt it was harmful to the long term battery life to always be plugged in. Nowadays i have an ipod dock adapter in my new Eclipse just to listen to the ipod and theres no way to stop it from charging while it played. Since this ipod is almost 3 years old and i only use it in the car i don't care what harm i do to the battery so much but with an iPhone this scares me as ill need that for long periods of time without being plugged in. Does anyone else think these car dock audio adapters are a bad idea and should have a no charge option? I'm planing on gettin a plain aux adapter just for the iPhone.

Pardon me, but I always think these questions are funny. First off, the word "charger" is used way too loosely. Chargers do NOT charge anything. They simply step down and regulate power. In short, they provide a constant voltage. MacBooks, cell phones, etc. The actual "charging" of the battery happens inside the device where this constant voltage is used or not to recharge the batteries.

In short, any charger is fine and NO different than most others. The iPhone will block power/stop charging when no longer needed. You car charger is fine.

Is this dock visible all the time? If it is, i would never put it in my truck. In my opinion it would be like asking for someone to break into your vehicle. Its bad enough if to have an after market deck in your ride. I guess it boils down to how badly do you want it?
