Hey all,

So I realized a couple days ago that I do not have a USB A to usb C cable allowing me to use CarPlay.

Does anyone have a suggested cable or adapter I can use to get CarPlay back on my iPhone 15pm?

Any USB-C to USB-A cable will do.

Would it be better to go with a cable vs wireless CarPlay vs an adapter to use a usb A to USB C female adapter?

I can go with a belkin cable for $34

Or this for a significantly lesser price. I’m not balking at the prices, I just don’t want to unnecessarily spend the $23. If I need the cable I’ll get the cable.

The wireless adaptors seem to be hit or miss - they either work, don't work at all, or work for a few days and then quit working. On almost all of them you'll see a couple of five star reviews followed by a couple of one star reviews. It's the reason I didn't buy one for so long, especially considering most of the well known brands are up around $100. I bought this one for $50 and it's worked perfectly in my 2019 RAM but based on the reviews and 3.5 star rating YMMV.

If you're going to plug it in to charge anyway I'd just go with the cable.

2 cables, trusted manufacturer, $15. Personally don't care about wireless carplay, especially if it's $100 to enable it in a car that doesn't already have it. I use cables in my '23 Honda Odyssey and it works just fine.

In my 2021 Ram 1500 I have USB-C ports, but I am noticing that Car Play can be quite difficult to activate since switching to the 15 Pro. With the 13 Pro I could plug it in and turn on the truck and when the phone unlocked it would activate on the display. Now I find myself needing to unplug and plug the 15 Pro in multiple times to get Car Play to activate. Anyone else having this issue?

I had that on my 13pro max until I trusted the car play system and allowed it to sync without unlocking the phone.

Granted, I have only had it since 9/9 but, it connects fast and I haven't had any random disconnects.
@Apple_Robert , just curious why you went with this brand over the CarLinkit brand on Amazon. I have the CarLinkit version 4.0, but was wondering if there was any particular reason you went with Schmidt Spiele

Thanks!

After reading a lot of complaints about slow connect, lag and drops, I decided to step outside of going brand and give Schmidt Spiele a shot.

Thanks - I know from reading many of your posts that you are very security conscious. Do you have any reservations about using these adapters from a security perspective?

I've searched online but cannot really find much about whether or not any research has been done on the security aspect of these adapters.

I suspect that it's probably ok since all it's doing is sitting in the middle of your phone and car, providing a Wi-Fi connection via the adapter. But curious what your thoughts are.

I use generic USB-A to USB-C cables in both my cars, as well as a Carlinkit wireless dongle in one. Both cars are working fine for CarPlay with our 15 Pro Max phones and iOS 17.0.2.

Yeah already trusted, my experience has been that regardless of trust or not I typically need to unlock my phone in order for Car Play to enable, even with my old phone.

Good question. I have researched as best I can in this area and I didn't find any evidence of "phoning home" to a third party entity during use. As far as I am aware, my CarPlay usage stays with me and Apple. If new information comes to light, I will go back to the cord.

Thanks for the response. I'm in the same line of thinking as you are.
