I was debating between a Focus and a Cruze. Drove both. I'm getting the Cruze Eco with the 6 speed manual. It was more fun to drive and performed better on the road (smoother, more performance). The focus also seemed more cramped for my 6' 2" frame. The focus did have nice technology features but it was more expensive and the manual option is only a 5 speed

Buying a 2011 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport tomorrow. Pretty stoked!

A good choice. The only criticism I would level at the Subies would be underwhelming fuel economy. But after 4 years of ownership I'm pretty satisfied with my 2000 Forester S. Though, I crave something sportier. Congrats!

I am surprised at its fuel economy actually. After 2000 miles, I am averaging 28mpg!

That's pretty good. My 2000 Forester S (manual transmission) gets 27.5mpg combined cycle - but my girlfriend's 2001 Forester S (automatic) gets only 19mpg combined cycle, which is terrible. It has a small oil leak, but I really haven't traced the source of the bad mileage yet...the plugs and wires need changing, that's next on the agenda.

The Suzuki is frugal on fuel consumption, but if you're going to run a lot of miles on it, I would suggest going for the Ford instead. Ford cars are generally better built than those Suzukis.

Oh saw the OP's post  Congrats on your choice! Enjoy your new ride :)

Yea, I did get the manual. Parents thought I was nuts as they think that's what you get when you are young. I just like manuals better and they are just as easy to drive imo

I am surprised at the mileage as the window sticker did say 20 city and 27 highways but both the onboard mpg and my log of every fill up have it around 28. I'll take that any day!

Just weird as my fwd celica would usually average about 25 in the city and maybe high 20s on the highway and that had fwd (unlike the awd in my subie), 50 less hp, .3L less displacment, and a much smaller wind profile (frontal area of the car)

Pleasantly surprised:)

Thanks, I love it. For me it was the awd that sealed the deal. Having been through some rough winters here in CO and in NY with my old car, I hate that feeling of not being able to drive/get stuck/ etc and awd sure will help with peace of mind when I go to ski resorts (the celica always made me on edge lol)
