Just updated High Sierra and lost Wi-Fi. I am now in the process of using Time Machine to revert to a previous state before the update, which is now in its 6th hour.

Can CCC be used to revert to an earlier state, such as before an OS update or software install, in case the system becomes unstable after the update?

You would have to clone prior to the update
But yeah, if you did that, and then updated and it crapped out on you, then you could clone back from the pre-update

Thanks, that is very helpful.

Assuming I have a full clone, how long (long or not long) would it take to make a new clone before the update (my understanding is that CCC does delta updates to the clones so I assume it would not take long).

For future reference, CCC is a lot faster backing up and restoring than Time Machine.

In my case, I use both Time Machine and CCC
Time Machine for incremental use and CCC for bootable clone
I have it this way on both my MacBook Air and my MacBook Pro

This has been my experience as well. Restoring from TM is painfully slow. I don't bother with it anymore.

I do the same, I make a periodic back up with CCC, and use CCC to make scheduled back ups on a separate drive. CCC is a really nice app.

I use TM also, but I rarely ever use it.
