Card reader keeps disconnecting

Every time i plug in my usb card reader it keeps disconnecting and then connecting again to my Macbook pro, i have to be very fast and lucky when transferring photos to iPhoto🙁. The same card reader works great with my dad's windows machine😕

Any one know what this could be?
