This technically is not a "native" read of the sensor. 100% native would be direct authorized access to the sensor. This app and others use access to heart-rate data recorded by the sensor in HealthKit. Devs still needs to create a workout-esque app in order to use the data. It's much different than having a standalone watch app that displays your HR without the need for an iPhone. However I'm sure this API will be made public in the future.

I've had cardiogram , kardia and the apple watch and the alivcor ecg for months. i wonder why this is front page news? i guess i was on the beta team and didn't even know about it? i got the app and the ecg monitor from a rhythm study

oh ok. it was automatically updated. prior to this the watch app wasn't native. now it is. cool

this week the ECG said i was in Afib , but it doesnt seem to be verified

I, and many others, have never heard of this. I'm interested. I'm very glad it was "front page" news. I hope web sites continue to post this kind of information even though it is obviously very distressing to those who already know about it.

who is this even for??? All i see this leading to is more blood thinners -> more GI bleeds.

Do you have any idea of who many people die from pulmonary embolus?
Do you have any idea of how many people get severe and fatal hemorrhagic and non hemorrhagic strokes secondary to left atrial fibrillation induced clots?
Do you know how many people get lower extremity arterial emboli with loss of limb or 4 days of TPA treatment which has it's own risks?
Do you know how infrequent GI bleeding is with anti coagulant therapy and how in most cases it can be treated without much difficulty? Do you know what Protonix is?
Just recall your statement when you have had your stroke, your face is contorted, you can barely speak, saliva is dribbling down the side of your mouth, but you have enough mentation left to say "if only I had known I had atrial fibrillation and had been on anticoagulation--this could have been avoided".

Good luck to you.

I can register just fine. What I can't do is download the app to the phone. It keeps quitting when it's about 75 percent done :(

Hey! I'm one of the Cardiogram developers. For all of you who had trouble registering, sorry about that—we had a big spike in server load overnight. I added more capacity, and am tuning the system now to make sure we can take the load as traffic comes in.

Right...you need to have it monitored all day..by the way how long does your watch and iPhone last?
You are not having multiple pvc are you? That would be serious.

I do not have the  Watch yet, still using a FitBit Surge.
Yes, I do have multiple PVC's which will go on for several days sometimes, then won't happen for again for weeks. My Cardiologist calls them "benign" I call them irritating!! Feels like a fish flopping around in my chest. I have an ICD implanted so I am self-restarting if need be...

This article isn't really on the front page. It's in iOS blog page. However when viewed on a cellphone articles from other blogs all show on the same page. It's like the front page for cellphones is a different front page for tablets and computers.
No, I'm on computer and it's on the front page.

As I understand it, wOS 2 apps are supposed to run directly on the watch and independent of the phone.

Cardiogram informed me last week I was in afib, I went to the doctor and had a 12 lead ecg. No new damage.
My pulse was really high.

Glad to hear that you suffered no new damage. Have you ever looked at Kardia? It allows you to run a single lead ECG and records it on your iPhone. I have been using it for about 8 months and am very happy with it.
