$1000 is useless as you usually have life insurance in the hundreds of thousands anyway. This is just to get your address and talk you into upgrading to a more useful life insurance. So far this is not bad as it's just a way of advertising. However, with all of these companies they after signing up for these "free" offers they eventually sell the company to some other company in some other country with other laws and then there is no guarantee that your data are safe or won't be misused to deny you health insurance or life insurance down the road.
Cardiogram may be well intentioned now but taking part in this scheme's put's the long term privacy risk on the customer. I usually avoid these companies even if I have the choice to not sign up as this indicates that they do not care about privacy enough (in my personal view).

I know lots of people in their late 20’s to mid 30’s who don’t have any life insurance , let alone hundreds of thousands of dollars of coverage.

Of course this is a foot in the door method of selling life Insurance and not a realistic policy that people can depend on. As long as all parties involved are aware of that I don’t have a particular problem with this giveaway.

The potential for personal information being leaked/sold is another question entirely. Even if the company has no intentions of selling your information that doesn’t mean the data is secure. It also doesn’t prevent a change of policy by a company where they do sell your information in a few years usually accompanied by statements that your data is “safe” and there’s no risk to you. And since they already have your data there isn’t much you can do about it if you’ve already signed up for the program.

Here is free $1000 offer, but we really want you to get the $500,000 or $1,000,000 coverage. Welcome to AOL Trial CD.

Does getting shot dead in a mass-shooting event counts as accidental death? (The shooter didn't specifically look for you)

But it wasn't an accident.

Companies like John Hancock and Aetna, for example, provide discounted Apple Watch devices to their customers, encouraging them to be more active to improve health.

What became of this? I could never find a link that would allow me to get a discounted Apple Watch for having Aetna/John Hancock?

Accidental death policies are the Keno of life policies. Garbage policies that exclude most situations or activities that pose a risk. And accidental policies have ZERO to do with heart-related events.
