I was in the same boat as you up till a few weeks ago. I was a Windows / Linux user. Never really enjoyed OS X. Have one were I work on an old Mac Mini and its SLOW.

I kept buying cheap laptops that were falling apart in a year or so between class, travel and personal use.

I got the 2.0 aluminum and swapped out the 160GB hdd for a 250GB I had laying around. With boot camp, I used 40GB for Windows 7 32 bit beta (build 7000 I think) and used the rest for OSX. I used the Leopard CD to install all the drivers for Win7. I haven't looked around for newer drivers yet.

Only thing is that my touchpad seems sensitive in Win7. I cant press click it (opposed to tap click), or it double clicks, and sometimes when Im moving it thinks Im clicking. Not sure if thats a Windows thing, Win7 thing or something else.

Oddly enough, I find myself using OSX 90% of the time anyways.

Big deciding factor for me on getting the MB was that I could run Linux, Windows or OS X on it.

Good luck with your decision.

that is a windows 7 driver issue with the MBP, because Win7 is still in beta mode apple hasnt brought out any drivers for it.. so of course you will experience some difficulties using the new trackpad.

Running Windows on a Apple laptop just doesnt feel right. I am a Windows guy and own a 2.4ghz Aluminum macbook, and to me it just doesnt feel the same. The trackpad works differently, the keyboard is different, etc.

If you plan to run windows 100% of the time I suggest you buy something else that is similar to how the Macbook looks. The Dell Ademo looks slick as hell, and probably suit your needs better than a macbook.

I only use windows to play games, my xp partition has nothing on it except internet, and games, no msn, no extra appliactions, just games, and I use Osx almost 99.9 % of the time

Thanks for the insight. I know that I can get better specs on native PCs, but I keep going back to the mb due to the build quality...I just can't find anything to match it. I've basically narrowed my list to mb, Sony Z series and Dell XPS Studio 13.

Anyhow, I can deal with the driver issues in Windows...not a problem. I just need to play with Windows using the mb trackpad to see if it will suit my needs.

What about heat? I read that some mbs are having trouble with the fans, causing heat problems in Windows. is this still a problem or has this since been resolved?

Thanks guys and keep the comments coming...

Get a Windows laptop. Forget about getting the Mac. Too much trouble, IMO. I guess it'll feel great when you don't have problems, and horrible when you want something to work, but it won't. Get a Sony Z as recommended by others.

And honestly, the build quality of many other laptops is also good. Laptops have been around for a long time, and yet the unibody designs have only been around for 4 months, is only found on 2 laptop models in the world, and only available from a single company.......and yet people have been OK. So have their laptops. ;)

I really like the new Apple designs, but mostly because it's pretty. :) However, it's not a solution to a design issue that was having a detrimental affect on the longevity of computer hardware. This is more of a solution to a problem that never existed until 4 months ago.......one that Apple marketing created. Now people (well, only Mac nerds who post on computer message boards) think this is such a crucial issue. It's not. It's pretty, but that's the extent of it, IMO.

Do you know what would be even MORE annoying than not having a unibody constructed laptop? Having a computer that has compatibility issues for 3-4 years. THAT would suck. ;)

Macbook looks the best for sure and is the most rigid. Sony Z is overpriced I think as I mentioned before and the XPS 13 is brand new and still in that early adopter phase.

The thing which kills the Macbook for Windows use is the trackpad issues and the horrible battery life in bootcamp. If you can live with those two things it's not bad. I don't have any heating issues on the MB but the MBP guys complain about it.
