CarPlay CarPlay and iOS 26

When I activate CarPlay Voice Control, the battery status icon on the CarPlay screen disappears but returns when I deactivate Voice Control. Is this a bug, or is it by design? My CarPlay installation is an aftermarket one using the existing screen in my Land Rover Discovery Sport and otherwise works perfectly.
