Hi I'm wondering if you can listen to the regular radio with CarPlay on or if you are limited to Apple Music, iTunes and apps.

I heard that CarPlay uses the data from your phone is that correct? And if you don't have CarPlay on your screen does it still read out your texts... Thank you for any information.

On a 2017.5 Nissan Murano that I'm currently evaluating, I can also access Pandora and Amazon Music from the CarPlay interface. If I'm in the mood for AM/FM radio or SXM, I can just as easily press the audio button on the head unit and and select those sources instead and still swap back to CarPlay to read text messages or the such. If I also happen to be on the Nissan Navigation screen or other screen native to the Murano's interface, it will also swap back to CarPlay interface when I receive a call, get a text message, or a reminder pops up.

Naturally, it all depends on your head unit and how it is programmed, but I don't see manufacturers limiting a person to just the CarPlay interface and nothing else when in CP mode.
