This may be a question that cannot be determined until people get their hands on the 8/x:

Could you use a wireless charger in your car and still have CarPlay work? I am not talking about wireless CarPlay that some cars have. I specifically want to know about using a wireless charger in lieu of a lightning connection.

I was wondering the same thing....my guess is No...I don't think wireless charging also transmits data...

But I'm not sure..

It might also depend on the implementation of the car systems too.

My understanding is most car systems need you to connect over USB, so the QI charger is only providing power, not a data connection. I do have CarPlay (or crapplay as i call it) on 2 cars and i also have built-in QI, but i don't have a phone to test with as yet.. That said, i think you can tell from above i just don't use CP as its a massive backward step over what the cars are fitted with as standard.

"Aside from BMW and Alpine, all other CarPlay implementations are wired and require connecting the iPhone to a Lightning cable to display information on the in-dash screen"

Thanks. That is what I was thinking. I agree that CarPlay is a step back from the high-end market. BMW, Audi, etc tend to have better interfaces by default. I have a VW, so prefer CarPlay. IOS 11 improved maps pretty drastically.
