On my 2018 Chevy Equinox it is wired and works fine. On my 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 I have a aftermarket Pioneer head unit and it works wired but only once wireless after I pair it. I shut down the unit and Pioneer forgets the wireless connection but this is known issue with the Pioneer head units but still works wired.

Same. I bought a 2022 hybrid CR-V in October 2021 and three weeks ago, bought a 2022 CR-V and both have no problems. Both are touring models but I doubt that makes a difference.

CONFIRMED!!

If I connect with ExpressVPN on, CarPlay didn't work. If I connect with it off, it does work. Who would have guessed?

Also, once connected, if I turn ExperessVPN on, then CarPlay still works. Kind of. The screen is on, but music won't play.

I have discovered this is a known issue with the Network Protection option. Turn that off and CarPlay works with ExpressVPN on.

Thanks for the tip!!

I just saw this thread today. I am a customer of another commercial VPN - Windscribe. Generally I've been very happy with them. I thought their native app was a bit buggy in the past, so for the past 9 months I have exclusively connected to my VPN through the Wireguard app. By the time I upgraded to iOS 16, I think it was 16.0.1. No issues using Siri connected via USB in Car Play. 16.0.2 was fine too

ios 16.0.3 that came out monday gave me nothing but trouble. I can no longer press the talk button on my steering wheel and say "Call John Smith" or "Navigate to 123 Main St..." The Siri logo spins on the display, nothing happens. I talked to 2 levels of Apple support last night and actually the 1st level gave me a temporary fix. I was told to remove not only the VPN apps but also the profiles. I had like 6 or 7 profiles installed. Turning off the VPN alone did not fix it. Once I restarted the phone after complete removal - Car Play worked like normal.

Looks like there was a problem with Express VPN and definitely my VPN - Windscribe. However, I have a free account with Proton VPN. I fired that up -- reinstalled its profile and no issues with Car Play. I tried reinstalling Windscribe's app and again car play would not work. I had to completely remove the app and profile to get back to normal. I am working with Windscribe's support directly on this also. They just updated their iOS app about 5 days ago.

I had a conversation with senior Apple Support yesterday, as my iPhone 12 Pro Max + iOS 16.0.3 still not connecting wirelessly. Worryingly, they said that this is not currently a problem they are aware of!

They talked me through a recovery mode re-install of the OS, which has not solved the problem. I had TunnelBear VPN installed but uninstalled this a couple of weeks ago, so this is not my problem.

My wife's iPhone X has iOS 15.x (can't remember exact version) and this is able to connect wirelessly.

My son's iPhone XE has iOS 16.0.3 and - like mine - he cannot connect wirelessly. My car is a VW Arteon Shooting Brake. He has never had a VPN installed on his phone.

So, in my car, no phone can connect wirelessly in iOS 16.0.x. Indeed, since 16.0.3 even USB CarPlay has become significantly more temperamental - disconnecting at random, not connecting sometimes when plugged in, etc.

I really hope that Apple recognise soon that there are CarPlay issues with iOS 16.x. Lots of people here seem to have no issues, which is great for them, but there seem to be also plenty of us who definitely do have problems.

I was having problems connecting to my VW Arteon and iOS 16.0.3 as well, but I found a solution by enabling Siri.

The error message my car displayed said I needed to enable Siri in Settings on my iPhone, but when I checked the Settings app it appeared Siri was already enabled. I was also puzzled because I don't remember purposely disabling Siri, so I assumed it was just a bug and there wasn't anything I could do except wait for Apple to fix it in a future release.

Apparently it wasn't because I serendipitously held the on/off button a little too long tonight on my iPhone 14 Pro Max and was greeted with a prompt asking if I wanted to enable Siri. I don't remember the exact wording on the button, but after selecting the option to enable Siri I went out to my car and I was finally able to connect with CarPlay again.

I have to assume that in my case something with the iOS 16.0.3 update disabled Siri behind the scenes, and it wasn't clear in the Settings app that Siri was disabled until I saw that prompt.

Good to know that your Arteon is working wirelessly with 16.0.3 - indicates that the car is probably not at fault.

Enabling Siri was one of the first steps I went through, and this didn't fix the problem for me - 'senior' Apple tech support took me through all of the known setup steps. The fact that my wife's iOS 15.x phone works wirelessly shows the car is ok, so the combination of iPhone 12 + iOS 16.x seems to be the issue in my case. I seems that there were known and acknowledged problems with the iPhone 14 (which you have) and they have fixed those but there doesn't seem to be the same recognition or acknowledgement by Apple of problems with other iPhone models.

YES! My F-150 truck no longers connects CarPlay to with my phone. The phone still connects, but not CarPlay. I deleted the truck from the phone and removced the phone in the truck several times. I reboot my phone and even factory reset the radio in my truck. Nothing fixes it. I knew I should have not upgraded.

CarPlay doesn’t work wireless or wired.
No issues here with my 14 pro, 16.0.2 or whatever and my Raptor. Weird.

The Siri disabling by itself is a weird and unfortunately common issue with 15.x and 16. My wife’s phone stopped transcribing voicemails and Siri was the root cause.

Thought I would update this as I have now got wireless CarPlay working on my UK VW Arteon. After upgrading to iOS 16 on my iPhone 12 pro max wireless stopped working, and yesterday I bit the bullet and reset my phone (removed all apps and settings) and restored from iCloud - and it's now working. So it was an iPhone/iOS 16 upgrade issue, and not the car.
