Were there connection issues with CarPlay on the iPhone 7? I'm finding that connection is very flaky and often produces a "carplay connection error" message on my infotainment system. When it does connect, I get numerous audio dropouts. Using my iPhone 13 pro, connection seems to be flawless. Just curious.

That has happened to me before. Most of the time, in my case, the lightning port was dirty and full of lint. I had the nearby Apple Store clean out the lightning port on my iPhone safely and for free. There were also a couple of times that the lightning to USB cable was worn out and needed to be replaced.

I’ve got an iPhone 7 in my collection and it has by far the worst connectivity problems of all my phones. The iPhone 7 was a dud.

Responding to the original post about the iPhone 13, I have to agree. I use a 13 Mini, not the Pro, but the iPhone 13 is by far the BEST iPhone I have ever owned, and it is my 4th iPhone so far going back to the iPhone 5. The performance is still excellent, it is reliable, and it just works, and the 5G is great. I have no experience with the iPhone 7, so the other poster may be correct about those issues. But in my case, these ports do get dirty, and when that happens, the cables often don't reliably connect. This is especially true if you tend to carry your phone around in your pocket, which is something that I do.

Interesting. I have access to an original generation SE, the 7, a 13 Pro and a 13 mini and have now tried them all. So far, the little SE has actually been the most reliable. The 7 is consistently awful and the 13 Mini was not far behind (surprisingly). The 13 Pro seemed fairly reliable but it is my backup daily driver with a battery that still reads 99% and I don't want to abuse it by leaving it in a hot car fully charged all the time.

I actually tried the 13 Pro with a Chargie in series (to protect the battery by limiting the charge to 80%) and that went down in flames..... every time the Chargie turned off the charge power, the car turned off the USB power and reset the Chargie AND the CarPlay connection. The USB power then came back on and the phone reconnected, only to wash rinse and repeat.

Some of this could of course be the vehicle's fault (2024 Toyota Highlander) but I have no way to pin down an actual cause.

I'm just trying to reduce the battery drain on my main phone by passing the CarPlay chores to a wired phone (connected to the car's WiFi hotspot) but the effort seems cursed ;)
