CarPlay CarPlay expand or collapse

My car’s CarPlay does not have the expand collapse button that is shown above the time in this picture. Is there anyway I can add it? Is there an on off feature that I can’t find?

Where did you find this picture? Never seen it before and I’ve had a lot of cars with CarPlay. Could be an iOS 18.4 feature?

This is just a pic from the internet BUT my daughter’s car has it - as shown in this photo here. She doesn’t have 18.4. She still has 18.3.1 (or whatever is the current one).

Interesting. What make car does she have? Could be a function of the car and not CarPlay itself. Again, I’ve never seen that before so I’m stumped.

She has a 25 Corolla not fully loaded.
I have a 24 RAV4 Hybrid fully loaded.
I’ve already found many things that her car can do that mine can’t so I wouldn’t be shocked…. 😒😒

So both Toyotas, only one MY apart. Hmm. Maybe a new feature with the ‘25’s? No clue. If you don’t get much info here, try Reddit.

I wonder if this is dependent on the screen size? I have never seen that on any car that I've driven that has CarPlay.

It is clearly implementation-dependent. The car manufacturer uses Apple's SDK to implement what you actually see. They then have to get MFI certified by Apple.

On my 2024 Lexus SUV it puts the car UI bars on the left side. It's nice if you want to see something quickly and not totally switch to the car UI. Probably the same code as the new Toyota cars.
