Nobody owns a boat, most peope have never even driven one, let alone one with an infotainment screen.
Apple, can we please put your finger back on the pulse of your avaergae consumer / and filter out these managers calling the shots to shift resources or even suggest projects like these. Please reassign them to another department

Perhaps 'CarPlay for Boats' isn't ideal.
People might get confused. 'Boatplay' of course, is ridiculous. They just need to drop the play part. Apple Nav for Boats.
This way you can add other vehicles.

Tesla is, reportedly, planning to add CarPlay support via a software update. It hasn’t happened yet, as it’s been waiting on a new feature from Apple which will allow navigation data to be shared/synced between CarPlay and the car’s self-driving system.
This Route Sharing feature was announced at WWDC:
Apple already implemented the navigation sync in ios26. Tesla reportedly delayed the rollout due to slow uptake of ios26.

The "Route Sharing" feature was just announced at WWDC in June 2026. It's in iOS 27.

Maybe there was some other feature in iOS 26 that Tesla need also, but Route Sharing is something they specifically wanted in order to sync routes between Tesla's self driving system and CarPlay.
Great. I thought these boats were made for disconnecting for a while. It's a bit like adding carplay to a movie theater. If you ask me, it's not a boat, it's bloat.

iOS 26 uptake wasn't really the primary issue. The initial delay appears to have been caused by technical challenges between Tesla and Apple route guidance — which was patched in an iOS 26 point update. However, where iOS 26 uptake factored in is with concerns over inconsistent adoption of the specific sub-version fix. Because of this, Tesla and Apple switched toward a deeper architectural solution, evolving the project into the native iOS 27 Route Sharing API being built today.
In other words, the reports blaming this on “slow uptake of iOS 26” misleading. It was a routing issue that was fixed, but the teams decided there was a better solution that will be implemented in iOS 27.

Tesla doesn't need car play. Their software is substansially better then android auto or carplay.
