Here are some reasons why it could be dangerous.
  1. Crashing the console while navigating could cause you to miss a turn. You may recall people following bad mapping directions off the road.
  2. Crashing the console could distract the driver.
  3. Crashing the console during a 911 call could result in inadvertent emergency dispatch, which is inherently hazardous, or could delay emergency dispatch, potentially resulting in dire results.
First two avoided by the driver using common sense and driving properly like they would have done in the past before all these systems. If a sat nav fails and you then have an accident making a turn or going the wrong way its still your fault for not driving properly. In both cases you should pull over when safe and deal with it...if you try to deal with it whilst still moving then thats a poor decision by the driver that can be avoided.

Third one needs a lot of things to have happened to be in that situation and probably unlikely.
