So we have all the cool kids in here who
1. Hate ads and at the same time still want content
2. Never go anywhere remote enough that they won’t have internet and never forget to download songs or pack a usb stick with music on it
3. Listen to only their curated music never discovering any new music.

SiriusXM solves 1 and 3. Actually, it also solves 2.

For #2 - just about anywhere I go, there’s coverage. For the very few times, I always download all my music from Apple Music, so always available.

We watch the shows, we watch the stars
On videos for hours and hours
We hardly need to use our ears
How music changes through the years
Let's hope you never leave, old friend
Like all good things, on you, we depend
So stick around 'cause we might miss you
When we grow tired of all this visual

You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour

The next generation of CarPlay is finally starting to roll out, and it includes a new feature that solves one of regular CarPlay's longstanding limitations.

Apple last week announced the launch of CarPlay Ultra, and it offers a Radio app, allowing you to control AM and FM radio stations within CarPlay. With regular CarPlay, you must switch between CarPlay and your vehicle's built-in software interface to control the radio, so CarPlay Ultra will be more convenient for this purpose.

CarPlay Ultra's built-in Radio app can also be used to control satellite radio stations, but this is less notable given that SiriusXM already offers a CarPlay app.

Apple shared an image of the SiriusXM experience within the Radio app, but unfortunately it did not provide a look at the AM/FM side of the app.

Apple did preview the FM radio controls when it first announced next-generation CarPlay in 2022, but the design of the app has slightly changed since then.

CarPlay Ultra also has a Climate app with climate controls, allowing you to adjust your vehicle's temperature and fan speeds within CarPlay.

CarPlay Ultra is rolling out in new and select existing Aston Martin vehicles in the U.S. and Canada, so it is currently limited to one luxury brand. Apple promised that many other automakers around the world will offer CarPlay Ultra over the next year, with the list of committed brands including Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, and others.

Ok cool but this will distract many people and might cause a accidents... So no more CarPlay 😈

Most of the people commenting seemingly have unlimited data plans; for those of us who don't, it's nice to not burn through allotment by not having to use the SiriusXM app.
Honestly didn’t know they still have data-limited plans. Shocked.

You can get SiriusXM in your car so you don’t need to use data. That’s how most people use it in their cars.

Where has Apple said Kia/Hyundai/Genesis are coming "within the next year"? I've seen MacRumors mention this a couple times now but I've not seen a timeline out of Apple's mouth. Just that they were committed.

Because "within the next year" would imply 2026 model years because 2027 model years aren't dropping for over a year.
Way to make people hold off on car purchases for a year or years at a time. Not sure if this is good marketing on Hyundai’s part.

People actually still listen to the radio? Last time I tried was maybe 15 years ago, browsing through went like this:

- commercials
- news
- morning talk show cr@p
- commercials
- pop trash
- commercials
- prayers
- the same news as 30 minutes ago
- commercials

Why would you do that to yourself
I still enjoy live morning shows on my way to work, and I much prefer the shows found on local radio to the national shows on sirius.

I used to listen to local sports radio a lot too but after moving to a new state where I don't care about the local sports I have stopped.

I’m going to buck the trend and share that I do in fact listen to FM radio driving around town, and very much enjoy it.

When getting in out of the car and doing errands out and about, it’s fun for me to cycle between a few stations I enjoy and get the occasional traffic and weather update as well as maybe some local sports mixed in…. Often times I hear a new song I hadn’t heard yet , etc.

CarPlay’s nice but I’d rather car controls were tactile buttons.

Fed up of disconnections, not being able to see the touchscreen in bright sunlight and having to scroll pages to find something.

A button never moves, is always there, can always be seen/felt and is a better user experience in my opinion.

Who the hell still listens to the radio?

I haven't turned on a radio in over a decade.

I listen to the radio daily

here I get 2 public radio stations, 2 college radio stations and 1 co-op

a lot of people here also listen to local "ethnic" radio stations for news information in their first language

I also like finding weird independent local stations when road tripping

maybe these things don't exist in the USA?

I recommend people skip the Aston this year and see how it goes when it's rolled into Hyundai

not everyone lives in the USA
Where I live, it’s
Spanish
Spanish
Commercial
Spanish commercial
English Talk
Spanish Talk

So, I am assuming lots of hispanics in my area listen to the radio so this is great for them.

I've heard Spanish speaking commercials in only English radio stations. It's all depending on who pays for the ad.

In my case, I was hoping it would be something a little more useful since I never listen to the radio. But for those that do, GOOD.

Huh? Why would anyone care for the temp when driving? Wouldn't the weather conditions be way more informative? I would like to know if there's rain, gale, thunder et cetera along my route. What's this? "Let's add some random info on people car displays".
That’s exactly the problem of the original design of Carplay Ultra they showed a few years ago. Apple have no idea what to put on to the car’s display and just starts to put random widget no one needs.

Like who cares about putting a huge clock widget and a huge calendar widget on the center screen/passenger screen? I just need a small digital clock to know the time. If I need some info, I will just ask Siri about what’s coming up.

And who thought it’s a good idea to put a HUGE music player widget on the passenger side screen? I don’t need to stare at the playbar when listening to the music..

No wonder their car project failed. No one have any idea.

They could just try to copy from Tesla/Huawei/Xiaomi and it will be a lot better. Such a shame they are in the current state.

BTW Apple, this Carplay Ultra will never work out. Car needs even more software hardware integration. An external OS that needs to adapt to so many different models will never be as good as a good native Car OS.

It's kind of like the outside temp reading that's already in many cars today. However, this is something I rather get from the car's sensor (for live conditions) rather than the weather report.
