I see apple sells Carrier free phones and states can activate with ANY carrier later.... I thought the T-Mobile and AT&T phones were not compatible with SPRINT or Verizon... And for that matter you can't buy a SPRINT phone and activate on Virgin Mobile (which are the same carrier)...

So can you activate with ANY Carrier Later?

At point that was the case, but for a couple of phone generations the phones now have the chipsets for all the carriers.

At the iPhone hacks section.
This was true years ago like said above.
Now since the iPhone 6 many devices include baseband chips with multiple frequencies that work on both cdma and GSM carriers and pretty much can function in every carrier out there
