Carrier Update file. What does it do?

    What does a Carrier Update file mean and why does it do.

    It makes sure you don't post the same topic more than once.

    It looks like you need to update.

    Updates the server that the iPhone is on and it also updated mms options to work on the next fw upgrade 3.0

    In other words better service

    Sorry. Mac Rumors said try again in 20seconds so I did. Of must have posted it twice. But when it came up telling me this I thought I would make the title more descriptive. My bad.

    Updates your carrier settings, and in this particular "carrier update" the ability to turn your 3G on or off has been added to your settings app.

    Settings>General>Network

    am I not understanding which update we're talking about? I just tried looking for updates and iTunes is telling me that im up to date.....

    elaborate please...

    Last time I synced, it came up with a "Carrier Update" is available and asked if I wanted to update. I said yes.

    You just now got this? It been out for a while so i thought it was strange that some of you havent been prompted to download this, or you dont sync often?

    In my case I haven't synced in a long time. I was running jailbroken 2.1 and never upgraded, but after so many "Not compatable with this iPhone" messages from the AppStore, I decided to "Go to Jail, Do Not Pass Go, And Do Not Collect $200" and upgrade to 2.2.1. Which I notice is a lot faster and Safari is a million percent more stable!
