Make sure you unplug all USB devices before sleep/transport. You wouldn't want the Mac to wake up because of some random USB device while you're climbing Mt. Everest with the MB in your bag.

Huh?

You people are skeptical about carrying your laptop around in sleep mode? My god, I've had apple laptops since 2001 and have ALWAYS done that. Never understood people who turned their computers on to transport it.

No doubt. You can carry any machine (Mac or PC) around in sleep mode, even a desktop if you have long enough cords. It puts the running state into RAM, and parks the drive.

What else is there to discuss?

A lot of PC users have been told that carrying it around in any state other than "off" will somehow damage the machine or reduce its longevity.

Whoever is spreading that is wrong. At work, everyone (~ 150k people) carries their laptop around while sleeping (mostly PC). It's in the guides they publish to ward off the goofy rumors. :)

I never worried about sleeping my mac or my previous dell inspiron 6000. But since pcs suck so much......if i closed the lid on my dell, every time i oped it the stupid thing would lock up or freeze or have some other problem. So i was just as well shutting it off. Even though it took like 5 min to be able to use it after start. It wasnt a bottom of the line computer either. 80gb hard drive, 2gb ram, 1.4celeron. Just one more reason to buy mac;)

Things Not to Do

These are usually not instantly bannable - but will likely get you edited and/or warned.

1. Useless posts. Do not bother making posts with only one or two words (e.g., LOL or a smilie, or post simply to have the first reply in a thread. Such posts waste everyone's time and will be deleted. Posts saying "I agree", "+1", "me too", or the equivalent are also routinely removed.

Any particular reason why you care?

I rarely, if ever shut mine down. Just be careful if you have a bluetooth mouse, as I've had mine wake it up in my bag and get very hot (luckily just between classes).

*Just saw how old this thread is. Sheesh.

Any particular reason why you care?

Yes. I'm here for almost two years, and once every month or so (more often though) I come upon a thread resurrected for no other reason than posting LOL or a SPAM link or whatever the poster seems to think about, but it is rarely useful in any way.

Thus my interest in those necroposters, often ones who just registered to make that one post and never coming back again.

And I have developed an eye, and maybe some obsession, for those necro-threads. I can spot them in Forum Spy, but that may also be due to me being here so often.

Are you satisfied?

You should try going outside.

I do carry my laptop while it is in sleep mode. No problem at all.
Ps. I have done that for the past 6 years.
