In my opinion, the X feels better in Apple's leather case than it does naked. There's more grip and I don't have to worry about constantly wiping smudges away. The damage protection in the event I drop it is a nice secondary benefit.

The last few years (since I shattered my iPhone 6) I'm VERY conscious of where my phone is but accidents still happen. I've dropped my X once and the scuffs on the corners of my leather case add some nice character.

While the Apple leather case is definitely my fav case when I actually use a case- would have to disagree about it having more grip than the naked X. Especially when your hands are dry, the leather really is pretty slippery and def more slippery than a material like glass. I’ve mentioned before- old leather cases- from the iPhone 6 era- were a much much softer leather. It’s disappointing that they changed it. And yes it gains a bit more grip over time but it’s still a different leather than they used to use. Using no case also gives the phone much better balance and usability with 1 hand in my opinion due to less thickness. You don’t realize it but even a semi-thin case like the apple leather case is probably adding about 25% thickness to the phone. To each his own obviously- but Apple upgrade program + completely naked is easily my preferred method of using this phone.

Can't agree or disagree when it comes to the change in quality of the leather as I rarely used cases prior to my 6s and the first Apple leather case I used was on my 7+. I could have been more clear on my comments concerning grip. Yes, I agree that the naked phone sticks to my hand better than the leather but when it's in the pocket of my gym shorts or resting on my leg or sitting on the couch next to me, having the case on prevents it from sliding around and potentially hitting the floor or the rails under my car seat which have chewed up quite a few of my phones in the past.

Boy would I love to use my X naked all the time. I love how it feels in the hand, and how the display looks without a case encroaching on the sides. The X is gorgeous naked.

Caseless iPhone Silver. I had a case for the 8 plus I had but stopped using it after a while.

The horizontal camera config on the back of the 8+ meant the whole bottom edge of the phone made contact when placed down and that edge used to pick up marks but the iPhone x is different. Because the camera setup is vertical, it rocks on two corners, the metal outer of the camera and one corner so there is only minimal contact when placed down. Anyway, that's the long winded explanation as to why it seems it's picked up no marks at all on the back (or front) over the last few months.

Also, it just feels criminal to cover it up. The silver/white looks terrific and feels great to use it without the case. If it's dropped.... well, that's what apple care is for I guess!

How can leather be more slippery than glass?!

My leather Cosmos Blue case on my iPhone 8 Plus (since launch) naturally sticks to my hand and has a great patina. I do admin, that when the leather is new, it is slippery, but as it gets older, it naturally offers more grip, over the super smooth surface of the X and 8/8 Plus.

Totally agree with this - even the old iPhone 5 Apple leather cases had a softer leather (it was kinda spongy like!) and offered grip right out the box. I also wish they never changed it....

...yea, kinda agree with this as well, to an extent. Whenever I changed my case on my 8 Plus and I remove the leather case, I am in awe at how gorgeous the naked 8 Plus looks - its so super slim!!! I would love to be able to have the confidence to use it naked (I even have AppleCare for it FFS!!! ) but I know if I even dropped it once, I would hate myself using a damaged iPhone!!

100% agree!!

I would love to use the iphone X caseless and I have tried but the phone is just too slippery for me to use without potentially dropping it. That back glass is like butter lol.

Would love to use mine without a case but given i'm on an annual upgrade it needs to be in top shape when i hand it back.

Thanks for that suggestion. How is the grip?

I wonder how well the clear stand up to yellowing?
Sorry, I didn't see your question.

The grip's one of the best things about it - not only are you making contact with the actual (gorgeous) sides of the X (which are grippy themselves), you're also able to reach further behind & around the phone, so you've got a tight grip on the device & also more reach for your fingers across the screen, which helps for one handed use. The bulging corners also 'dig' into your hand, providing more of a safe grip imo.

Here are photos I posted in another thread comparing a typical wrap-around case (Apple Silicone) showing the extra reach for your fingers....

If you're careful with your phone (I've never dropped mine) & don't mind the exposed sides, then jump on it.

What makes you believe this? It’s actually quite the opposite- if you are on the Apple upgrade program- they couldn’t care less about surface damage. Only a cracked screen/broken part will stop them from taking your trade in. But anything else they do not care at all about. For people who are keeping their phones longer and worrying about resale value- then they have reason to worry more about the shape of the phone.

Not apple upgrade program

It’s EE carrier upgrade. So different rules apply. If they seen it unworthy then you may have to pay extra
