Hi all!

I know there is already a thread very similar to this one:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/how-is-your-x-holding-up.2131147/

However, I wanted to start another to get views from people that have solely used their X without a case. I have an Apple silicon case which is starting to fall apart, and am very tempted to go caseless, because it looks way better!

I've a friend who has done so, and within just a couple of months the band on his space grey is covered in scratches. I have the silver version, so understand I may be able to polish small scratches out, but I'm still a little apprehensive: I wanted this iPhone to last me at least three years given its price. And how has the back held up?

I must admit that even though the 6 wasn't in the same league in terms of industrial design, I do miss its durability!

Well I’m a part time caseless X carrier and it’s held up very well. Space gray here and no scratches except a scuff from dropping it - when I was putting it into a case ironically.

To me the design is basically the iPhone 6, though I don’t fault Apple for that. Most phones now look very similar to each other with some bells and whistles for differentiation. It will take a real visionary to make the next leap. I think the cell phone platform as we know it is very mature and approaching stagnation barring the incremental upgrades eliciting little more than casual admiration. Much like TVs or rollerblades ;)

I have been caseless with my space gray iPhone X since day one. Never dropped it once and never mix it in my pocket with anything else. It’s held up quite well but I am often surprised at the number of micro scratches. Would have just thought that at this point the glass in front and back would be more resilient to those. On the flip side I love the “naked” feel of the phone as this is my first time going caseless.

I have dropped mine a handful of times, thrown it in luggage with keys, and I only have micro scratches on the backside.

I'm convinced this newest round of phones is MORE prone to those small scratches than past iterations. I've gone caseless since the original iPhone, and never put anything else in the same pocket. Never had any issues with scratches on any other iPhone. iPhone 8 had 2 small scratches that run halfway down the screens within 2-3 weeks. After almost a year, there are small scratches all over the front and back.

I wil say it is been a few years since we had glass on both sides. IIRC, the iPhone 4 was a scratch machine too.

I’ve gone caseless with all my iphones. The X is very slippery and has fallen off tables and windowsills a few times (places where I left my old iphones without falling) without breaking and one very tiny scratch. When I saw the price of fixing the glass, and given how many times it dropped in the first month of owning it, the X became the first iphone I ever bought applecare for. Still holding up.

I'm not caseless, but I may as well be - My sides aren't covered, only back/top/bottom are by a wafer-thin "case".

The exposed sides & buttons are still as new, after ~4 months.

Tonnes of micro scratches on the screen. Not sure why but the glass they use never seems as durable as other phones on the market. I haven’t even stopped the one face down before. Just happens in my pocket.

Because there’s debris in your pockets that you can’t see your pocket, that’s why. It doesn’t take much to scratch the display with particles that in your pocket. What I would suggest doing is turning your pockets inside out and using a lint roller to remove any type of debris to prevent any future scratches or use a screen protector.

I was careless, then had to pay $575 for a replacement after the front and back shattered. I left it on the counter and an alarm went off while I was outside and slid it off the counter. I use a case now

I'm part time Apple leather case and part naked. My wife knocked my phone off the baby stroller while we were walking a few weeks ago with the case on but it landed on the corner/speaker and cracked the corner of the back glass. That crack began to spread across and then 2 nights ago it fell off my couch onto the rug while naked and now the back is totally cracked up. I do have applecare but it's still $99. Until these drops, I was happy with the way it held up to minor scratches and such.

The X is very slippery

My iPhone 8 is suicidal. It's forever hurling itself off surfaces. Unless they are 100% horizontal, it slowly creeps to the edge and then jumps off. None of these incidents have resulted in damage, but I have wooden floorboards.

I've dropped it a few times, including onto stone floors. I have a couple of tiny dents on the side (that I didn't even notice at first) and that's it. No screen or back damage.

(I know's it not an X, but I wanted to share!)
