NEVER! Just makes the watch bigger.

Lets see a picture of your watch in its case on your arm.
i have quite skinny wrists. its a 40mm and its doesn't look too bad on me. The case paid for itself though. I got hit by a car on a bike a while back and the case was completely shattered but the watch was fine.

Ill probably upgrade sometime soon or maybe wait for the series 12. 😞 any suggestions on what material i should get?

Yes, a plastic "snap on" clear (top) case off Amazon on my Apple watches, always, 100% of the time.

But I do not baby the watch; I do not take it off for any reason (other than sleep). Change oil on my car? Have the car on the lift and work on brakes? Build something in my garden? Rock climbing? Watch is always on my wrist.

It is the last activity (rock climbing) where I damage / crack the case most often. It does not happen as often as it used to but it does happen (falls are not exactly graceful). And I replaced cracked cases multiple times.

The size difference with the case is (IMO) not dramatic (but is noticeable when you start). My 42mm S10 + the case is still smaller than the Ultra or the 46mm watch.

Might not be right for everyone but it is definitely right for me.

I do all of these things and more and my S11 Ti still looks like new! No case!

no case and no screen protector, if you are worried at all about your screen, next time step up to the non-aluminum version of the watch to get the sapphire screen.

I specifically tell this to anyone who asks for suggestions.

Buy a cheap one for cheap replacement, or step up to the sapphire screen, and keep it longer to offset the cost.

Opt for the annual AppleCare plan at purchase for maximum safety. Not a One add-on, not monthly; annual.

Would you wear a TAG Heuer in a case? Then why a consumer grade novelty watch?
lol

Consumer grade - as opposed to what, industrial grade? Military? Mine is made out of polished steel and sapphire. That's different from a TAG how?

Novelty - why are you even on this site or in this forum if that's how you feel about smartwatches? Do you understand the engineering that went into designing them?

The weakest take lol

I run caseless on my AWU2. Not a scratch anywhere on my watch and I have had mine since launch. I love the look of the titanium body of this watch so that is why I have never put on a case on it.
