But my question is why? Do you ever take your case off? If not then you are looking at scratches anyway. Why is it better on the case then on the body of the phone. Do you like the looks of the case more than you like the looks of the phone?

Are you serious about the, why is it better that scratches are better on the case than the phone question? Yes it's better lol why would I want scratches on my phone instead of a case. A case is for protection, cracking, scratches, shattering. List of things is why people have cases and or skins. My question is, why would you rather have a scratched up phone rather than scratches on protective skin or cases?
Yes my case is off now. I also have a full body invisible shield. When I know it only going to be In a pocket all by itself. I rock it naked. Well with my invisible shield on it.

As has been said:

New case = £10/20.
New glass/repair for phone = £130 (And that's even if they'll repair it for scratches).

For what it's worth, I've got a bumper and an Invisible Shield on the front & back. I'll be getting the Tech21 iBand when it's released, as the bumper is a bit loose/iBand has a helluva lot more protection.

Oh, and this thing's gotta last me for 2 years. I want it in as good condition as is physically possible until the end of my contract.

exactly as others have said... just like with a screen protector, when scratched and tatty a case/clear back&sides protectors can be relatively cheaply replaced with a nice shiny new one. Not so for the naked phone...

isnt the answer obvious? people like to protect their stuff. id hate to look at my iphone and see scratches on it. if people didnt care there wouldnt be a market for iphone protection.

That misses the point of my entire line of questioning. There are some people here who have understood what I was asking. Thank you to those people for answering. The others obviously did not get what I was asking. Perhaps that was my fault for not asking it as clearly as needed.
