The Belkin Grip Candy Sheer case was one of the best feeling cases ever.

The Elago Outfit was also one of the only non-leather cases I liked.

Its a shame they stopped making these after the iPhone 4/4S versions.......

One very underrated case that isn’t really old but that they should’ve released it for the 12 line up was the Otterbox Traction. Minus the scuffing of the rear plastic, the grip was amazing and it looked fantastic. I’m not the one to go for wild looking colors on my cases but the exception to me was the paint splatter night glow Traction.

The Speck Candyshell Grip cases, and the quality of Speck in general. I've used the white and black one below on almost every device I've owned for the last decade. However, this year Speck cheaped out and completely ruined the grips on their cases. Instead of the attached rubber strips, the entire case is a single mold and the grips are just raised ridges of the plastic. Far less grippy.

Speck hasn't officially listed the Candyshell cases on their website for a while, but you've been able to find them on Amazon still. However with the iPhone 12 this year, there's only a couple available and they all use the new design.

These were SO good. Especially when that snake pattern one came out and then that iphone 4 with the bone looking brace. I even remember when Switcheasy fixed the saggy bottom and or when the brace would gouge the inner TPU when trying to put the case together. Came with a screen protector and all the port covers.

Good times.

I used this exact case two years in a row (I think it was 5s and 6). It’s too thick for my tastes these days (I’m a leather junky) but still love how it looks.

Some may disagree but I REALLY enjoyed the feel and unique look of the Spigen Classic C1. Too bad they released it for the 8, 8+, and X to celebrate 10 years of iPhone but never made any more.

If they made one for iPhone 12 mini I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Loved the look but the little grips used to catch on pockets and peel away. I returned one on an old galaxy S6.

  1. I really liked the Tech21 Impact Shell back in the iPhone 5 days - it was a soft (TPU?) case with a rim of D3O around the sides for shock absorption. EFM (who unfortunately, for me as a Canadian, seem to sell within Australia only) and ZAGG seem to be the ones with the rights to D3O these days but they seem not to produce anything like it.
  2. The original concept dbrand grip where it was a bumper with ridiculous grip and D3O that allowed you to show off your skin. The ones produced were notorious for breaking but I don't know why they decided to switch to a skinnable full case with inferior grip instead of improving its durability.
  3. The Power Support Flat Bumper. If we can't have an official Apple bumper or a dbrand bumper for the current flat-sided iPhones, this would be the next best option for me.
